I Have a Black Residue and Rust on the Exterior of the Garage Door
Besides from tarnishing the look of your garage door, rust and other residues can compromise your doors ability to function correctly.
The black residue is caused by the oil-coasting that is on torsion springs. Giving your garage door an annual washing will remove most of these marks.
Rust spots may be caused by salt used during the winter to melt snow and ice. To remove rust, clean the affected area with dishwashing soap first, then rub with a cloth soaked in vinegar. Sand the rusted part and apply a fresh coat of primer and paint.
Remember, you can avoid having to do this with annual maintenance work.
